Samuel our firstborn

I'm not pregnant anymore!

Nope I haven't forgotten about this blog but things have been haywire ever since our baby was born.

I'll write up my birth story once I actually get some sleep at night. Right now, our baby is a night owl. He's pretty calm and manageable during the day but at night, both his eyes are wide open and he's super awake! And yes, he can scream like a world champion when he's fussy.

We just got home from the hospital yesterday - which was a nightmarish experience (more about that later too) and my midwife came to visit for the first time today (another nightmarish experience).

I think having a baby in a foreign country throws one into the second phase of cultural shock. Its like everybody says something conflicting and thinks their opinion is the best, while the others' are invalid or just wrong!

I do wonder what its like to have a confinement nanny in Singapore. I do believe that you don't get scolded for everything you do wrong. I mean, its our first baby, so of course we make mistakes. But we really don't need to feel that we're on somekind of evaluation examination all the time!

I always thought that giving birth would be the hardest part of having a baby. But nope, apparently in Germany, the bureaucracy of nurses, midwives etc. is suffocating me!

I do apologize that I wouldn't be able to blog as much as I would want to in the next few days. Other than my rant, we are so in love with our little one. He's perfect to us. - Ok, he could sleep in the night, but we wouldn't exchange him for anything else in the world.

You know something....Sammy birthdate is the same as my sister-in-law, Aunt Wendy, your uncle David's wife....We had our Mid Authum celebration at my place and she was overjoyed to hear about your first kid birthdate...

Hi Pris

Glad to know that you are home. It's been a long stay in hospital I must say. I don't recall my female friends staying for so long unless they've had a cesarean but that's at most 4 days. Anyway, I'm glad you had a good rest which is something you definitely need.

I guess in Singapore, first-time mothers don't get scolded as much because we are told what to do and what not to do most of the time and those who actually engage confinement nannies are willing to follow the instructions given to the letter. Well, I do of some women who go against tradition and as the older folks say, you'll bear with the dire consequences later. Some of my female friends ask their mothers to help them out with their confinement so it's less conflicting.

Anyway, continue to keep your spirits up and try to get some eye shut as and when you can. We'll keep praying for you and baby. Take care and God bless.

Dad - Oh nice to know Sammy has the same birthdate as Aunty Wendy. Sad he "missed" Mom's birthday by 45mins, but oh well...its just a birthday.

MamaJ - Thanks! I know it will get better. It simply has to. Thanks for your words of encouragement!

Thanks Cyn for your encouragement, prayers and support. My midwife experience is getting better by the day. Thank God. I guess I'm also learning the roles fast - not showing off here. I try to get some shuteye whenever I can...but also love to come online and get some sanity and normalcy of my life. :)

Geli - Thanks dear. I couldn't sms anybody except family really. Was sooo tired...still am. Hope you understand.

I did post updates on facebook though. That was the easiest. Internet reception in hospital was sooo bad I barely got internet a few minutes per day...and when I did, I just posted some pix on facebook before trying to rest.

Congratulations on Baby Samuel, he looks adorable!
I have to say, I really feel for you here - my birth experience here in Germany was quite a traumatic experience as well. I think moms in Germany are under a lot (of unnecessary) pressure and it's so easy to feel inadequate. But hey, chin up - no one wants and knows better for baby than mom and dad :)
