We haven´t had the Internet since last Thursday because we´ve changed our Internet service. It would be 3 times as fast as our previous connection, but not without hick-ups. I must say that this wasn´t totally unexpected either. The last time we had to set up our Internet, it took weeks!
This makes it the longest time since I´ve gone "IT-less".... I´m sending this from my office computer. Really really hope that by the time we get home today, the Internet would be working again!... The only thing that helped me to keep my sanity (yup, I do suffer from withdrawal symptoms unfortunately) is my beanie´s new iPhone (which he bought for his job).
I´ve been able to check emails and all, but with a miserably slow connection and a 11 x 6cm screen! BUT I must say that my hubby really surprised me by coming up with this idea in the first place!! My hubby! A solution for his IT-deprived wife.... At times like this, I´m just overflowing with love for him.....hahha, isn´t it easy to make your wife happy???
Ohh....and have I mentioned yet? We´re heading to Venice and Rome in less than 4 days!

Rome is the best European city I've ever been to! You'll love it! Might be too hot now though but it's just gorgeous.
Off to Spain myself. Only 47 days to go... :)
Lucky gal, you seemed to have taken vacation to many places in the past 6 months. I remember the first few years of my marriage, I hardly travelled to save up for rainy days. By the way, wouldn't your job be affected by you taking so many days of leave? I know my boss hates it when I go on leave. BTW I have only got 24 days' annual leave. Sigh.
Dear jie jie! I´m soo looking forward to it! Got one full-day of working and another 1.5hrs on Friday and we´re off! :) Woo hoo. And the Internet is FINALLY working again! Boy, that was 1 whole week of no internet! Its a miracle that I survived! Ya! I heard abt yr Spain holiday...sooo cool! Off to the beach?
Hi Grace.... we´re actually not travelling as much as other people we know here! (Around our age) My friend who´s in London, has been to twice as many places as I have, in only 1 year! Oh boy. Besides, we´re taking the car...so its cheaper than taking the plane...Must travel more before we have kids! haha. Oh...I still have 5 days of leave I think. Didn´t use all my leave in Singapore... After Italy, I´ll have 2 more days...and its quite ok to take no paid leave in my job, since most teachers are replaceable.... I´ve only got 24 days too...most ppl have 30 days here.
Yeah, understand. I, however, prefer to space out my travel so that I have something to look forward to as incentive to work. In anycase I have to time it to coincide with school hols. Have a safe and pleasant trip.
Hey Grace, yup. We also try to space out our holidays, which is why this is the next big holiday after our Singapore trip. So that´s one holiday in 3 mths. Besides summer is really short in Europe, so one usually has to travel more in summer since winter is too cold for most people.
Yep, off to the beach and all by myself. Can't wait really. I am so exhausted at the moment that I'm looking forward to sleeping, eating, sunbathing, sleeping, sleeping and oh yeah more sleeping! :)
Yay! Will be interesting all by myself, will probably go insane within those two weeks... ;)
Oh, and only 20 days annual leave for me, no flexi time and no unpaid leave!
Hey jie jie, I heard about your trip from mummy. Cool! Makes me want to go for another beach holiday! Actually, I just to go for a spa. If only I can find somewhere with an amazing massage!! That´s what I soooo need!
Good to set aside adequate finance on a monthly basis to increase one's asset...like buying a apartment, house...
Very soon, your friends in Singapore, who have been married for 3 years plus could have already purchased a HDB flat or even a private property with their initial downpayment of 20 to 30% of the purchase price (minimum S$45,000...for a 4 room flat in the outskirt...)
We need to be prudent in our spending and yet save wisely to balance our liquidity... assets...etc..
I think, at that time, I had already bought a car after a few months of marriage and by 3 yrs plus, had sufficient money to put aside downpayment for an Executive Apartment....yet on a yearly basis also managed to tour around within the Malaysia within our means...
I am sure you have set aside similarly for housing and looking forward to have your own in the near future....
Dear Dad, we do save a part of our earnings too. We went to Rome this time because it was cheaper - with a voucher we got for our hotel in Rome.
When you stay in Europe, travelling to other European countries is like going to Malaysia from Singapore. People travel within Europe if they want to save money and not have to pay for air tickets to other countries. That´s why we drove too and the transport cost shared among 4 people is much cheaper than taking the plane.
I know that coming from Singapore, one thinks that one has to be super rich or super extravagant to travel within Europe. But as I said. The living costs of Italy and Germany are comparable. Put it this way, eating out in Rome was just as expensive as eating out in Germany. So why not eat out in other countries?
Germany´s different from Singapore, where it makes more sense to buy an apartment asap. Don´t think we´ll be getting our own apartment anytime soon because prices are very stable here and its hard to sell an apartment once we move house. So we´d rather continue renting until we know that we´re going to stay in a place for the long term.
Well, most of my friends don´t own their own apartments yet. Most are still staying with their in-laws or in rented places. Besides there´s no basis for comparison between staying in Germany and Singapore. Its just 2 separate worlds.
