English night out
We had such a great couple date last Saturday. I came up with a couple movie date idea, since Stephan and I watch english films and there aren´t many people who watch english shows in Germany. And what better to start then with my friends in German class? =) My jap fren, A and her American hubby have such an international history. They both grew up in Hong Kong, followed by university- one in USA and the other in Canada. After uni, A.went to work in Japan and her hubby in Germany. They just got married last year and yah! They are young... in their 20s, fun, people that we could completely click with. Its like striking lottery to find ppl our age.
Plus, it worked out SO well! We had a lovely time watching Oceans 13, followed by dinner at an Italian restaurant, followed by coffee in a cozy coffee place. We were all speaking english since her husband doesn´t speak much german - I´m so not complaining. It felt like even though it was still Germany, it felt so much like Canada. And suddenly, I really felt the pinch of the language barrier again. I mean, I think my german is getting much better now,but its still like a 3rd-language kinna thing. English is simply so convenient and I can simply let my guards down and not have to keep concentrating 100% to understand what is being said.
We had so much fun, talking and finding out about each other that we had no idea that it was already 1.30am when we left the coffee place! And we bumped into Anette too - the german girl who organised the mixed-couples meeting in february. That was so cool too, cos Anette is super into Asian culture and stuff, so it was no problem at all that we spoke english the entire night.
Man, I´m so gonna organise more english nights out from now on.
