My first musical instrument

YAY!

I finally got what I wanted to get for the longest time!

You know how you always want to invest in a hobby, but never get down to doing it?

I was like that for the past 5 years in Germany!

I always knew that I wanted to learn how to play the guitar. Somehow being a Christian and playing a guitar seem to go hand-in-hand.

Funny how hubby (before he became a Christian) used to worry that becoming a Christian would be all about playing the guitar at a campfire and wearing Birkenstocks - wahaha!

Anyway, I did take up guitar lessons for one year at the community centre and learnt the basic chords, while acquiring some singing skills in German folk music.

However, like an any musician would tell you, your music is just as good as your instrument. Playing hubby's 10-year old acoustic guitar just didn't really cut it in motivating me to improve my guitar skills.

I still used it very often nevertheless and I must say that the old guitar has had its fair share of tears from me during my personal time of worship with God. It still leans very forlornly against the wall after serving us for so long.

But last year, during my birthday I asked my friends to contribute to my guitar fund. And guess how much I "raised"? Close to 250€! So I only had to top it up a bit to get my 415€ guitar.

The sound is so rich and strong, I automatically feel more professional about my playing already! Hah. Not that God cares what model of guitar I use, but like David said, "I will not offer my God what does not cost me anything". I feel similar to that, in that I want to have my time of worship with God with a guitar that actually produces praiseworthy music - pun included.

Its the same subtle difference of whether I worship God playing my guitar in my pyjamas and being half-asleep or if I refresh myself, put on something nice and worship God with my guitar.

I'm nowhere close to being a guitar connoisseur but even hubby has been playing my guitar everyday! Love this investment and I'm proud to say that for someone who comes from a family background with no musical affiliation, I'm able to carry a tune with my guitar for most Christian songs by now, as long as I stick to the usual chords and not venture into uncharted territory.

Sarah - Haha, I think if we ever do take videos of ourselves, we can share with each other privately. :)
