Salmon Teriyaki

































Have I mentioned how much I love salmon? That´s one type of fish you can get easily over here and its relatively cheap too! About 250grams for 2,50€. Plus this dish is so fuss-free and healthy, one can simply eat it all the time!

After work last Monday, I spent the entire afternoon with my Jap friend and her lovely baby after not seeing them in a while. By the time I arrived home, it was past 8pm and I had absolutely no idea what to cook, while being totally famished.

I searched through the fridge trying to get some inspiration and that was when I came across my salmon in my freezer. Yup! So Salmon Teriyaki it was. It was done in about 15 mins and hubby was absolutely satisfied. So was I, of course.

This recipe is very similar to that of Teriyaki Chicken.

Salmon Teriyaki
- 2 slices of Salmon Fillet (about 250g)
- 2 Tbsp Mirin
- 2 Tbsp Japanese Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Sake
- 1 Tbsp Sugar

Method (1)
1) Heat up a frying pan, pan fry the salmon fillet till cooked and slightly browned. Set aside.

2) Mix the seasoning in a bowl, make sure most of the sugar is dissolved. Heat up the pan, pour the mixture into pan. Turn off the flame when sauce starts to thicken. Drizzle on the salmon and serve.

Method (2)
1) Heat up a frying pan, pan fry the salmon fillet till cooked and slightly browned. Leave it in the pan.

2) Mix the seasoning in a bowl, make sure most of the sugar is dissolved. Pour the mixture into pan. Turn off the flame when sauce starts to thicken. Serve.

Method (3)
1) Mix the seasoning in a bowl, make sure most of the sugar is dissolved. Marinate the salmon in the sauce for 15 to 20 minutes.

2) Heat up a frying pan, pan fry the salmon fillet till cooked and slightly browned. Pour in the remaining marinade. Turn off the flame when sauce starts to thicken. Serve.

I prefer Method (2) as it allows the salmon to absorb the sauce, thus making it more flavourful. Most people might think that Method (3) would be the best, however the sauce on the salmon might caramelise too soon upon frying and cause it to char. Unless you like char bits, you can try out Method (3).

A fried egg and grilled vegetables as sides would complete this mouth-watering dish. Enjoy!

Oh talking about kaya.... I have finished my last bottle! I think I need to make some myself....

The weather is SUPER cold here... it has been snowing the last few days but stopped over the weekend.... I can´t wait for spring to come! But then again, I don´t know if I want so much rain...hahah.
