Sorry for the long break. I´ve been out-of-order (literally) for one week after undergoing a "minor" operation. Minor for the doc, not minor at all for me. I´m feeling much better now, thanks for all your concern (esp. those who kept track of my moods on Facebook). It still hurts a bit, but on a scale of 0-10, where it used to hurt like 20 before, now it hurts like maybe a 4. This was what happened last Friday at the doc.....
Me: So doc, am I ok? Am I like "normal"? My recovery I mean....
Doc: Normal? You´re not normal. You´re much more sensitive than the "normal" person.
Me: Hmm, ok. (dunno what to say) So can I sit down, stand up for a long period of time? Or what should I do?
Doc: I can´t tell you what to do. You should decide for yourself.
(then gestures for me to the door).
Stephan was with me at the doc and he was irritated by him too. He said that he didn´t like the attitude of the doctor either. He´s like the impersonal, cannot be bothered type of doctor. I´m so glad that at least my husband empathizes with me. Had such a bad experience with this doc. I trusted what this doctor said. I realized only much later that I would have gotten more information about my operation from the internet than from what he said / did not inform me.
Doc: The operation is really minor.
Me: I have a job interview on the next day. Is that ok? Should I rather postpone my operation?
Doc: Oh no problem at all.
Fact: I was out-of-order for one whole week! I lost one tuition student, had to postpone my job interview and missed a major cell event on Tuesday. The youths organized a special meeting with adults (about 40 over ppl). Stephan and I helped in the whole organizing and we didn´t even make it to witness what went on.
Internet: In Singapore, people are hospitalized for this type of operation for 1 week on average.
Internet: Don´t eat or drink hours before your operation.
Doc: Didn´t mention anything about that.
Consequence: I felt I could have died from the pain after the operation, thanks to the consumption of food and drink before that.
Nothing prescribed for me after the operation.
Stephan called doc when I was so in pain. Doc then informs Stephan to get the medicine from the pharmacy. Stephan drives home immediately from work and goes to the pharmacy to get the medicine. Which doctor doesn´t prescribe medicine to a person after an operation???!?
I´m simply used to doctors who both show that they care and who are just as good in what they do, on a professional level. Can´t seem to find that type of doctors here. I feel more "scolded" by doctors than cared for by them. Isn´t it such that one of the foundations of the medical industry is to provide care for the patients? I would definitely define care in terms of all-rounded care, including psychological and emotional care. Not just like the "ok you´ve got your treatment, now get out of here" type of doctors.....
Alright, I need to make one disclaimer though. The doctors here are very thorough in what they do. I remembered I used to get so angry that I was sent to all sorts of different specialists for my flu problem. One of them paid off though! I had a superb visit to the throat-nose-ear doctor. He prescribed me nose drips and told me the root of my flu problem is the dry air in Germany esp. during winter (which makes sense cos Singapore´s air is humid!) Since then, I´ve been miraculously healthy for almost 2 months now! That´s amazing since I was at the doctor every single week in December last year - not kidding.

Ouch, didn't know about your operation until now. Has that got to do with the c examination you told me about just before I left Stuttgart?
German doctors are indeed often minimum service and I remember often having to beg them for medicine and I'm already a very non-medicine person!
Take care and recover your sunny disposition asap, ok?
Kiss,
S.
Hey S. Thks for yr concern. Yeah, my operation has got to do with the examination that I had before u left stuttgart. I just wanted to get rid of the problem once and for all. But after researching on the internet, it seems like having the operation is not a guarantee that the problem will not come back again.
Thks for empathizing with me! Its nice to know someone who has similar experiences. Well, I guess its one of things one has to deal with when staying in a foreign country. I´m sure Sg docs have their own hick ups too.
Will endeavour to return to my normal self too!
**HugSs** miss u!
