I can´t believe that I´ve taken an interest in plants! I used to be the worst in my family - plants kept in my room ALWAYS died an untimely death, including cactus. Its very much a green culture in Germany. There´s lots of greenery, people take pride in their gardens, flowers etc. I can imagine that its more interesting to keep plants here with the 4 seasons - flowers are a good indicator that spring and summer are here.
Well, most of the plants we have were given by people. Either the plant got too big for the room or simply as doorgifts. A couple have died already, but I´m comforted to know that some types of plants are NOT meant to live. They bloom only once each season.
The amazing thing is that one of my plants that I so did NOT expect to be a flowering plant, suddenly sprouted flowers the other day. (Pix above) And boy were they beautiful or what?! I simply thought, "Wow, God is encouraging me to keep plants!" Plus I´ve been inspired by my HK friend, Connie to keep plants. She herself being a convert to plant keeping since she moved to Germany 6 years ago.
Therefore, I rolled up my sleeves and started to "groom" my other plants, by pulling out old leaves, dried flowers etc. I even started planting my first ever Laksa plant! Thanks to Serene, I inherited a branch of a Laksa plant and Stephan and I spent Saturday buying some soil to plant it in. It still looks good after 1 day, so I hope and pray that the Laksa plant will continue to flourish under my green fingers and God´s of course!
Realized that keeping plants could be a bit like having kids. Somehow when you´re able to participate in the process of "producing" something, you have this sense of wonder! Like "Boy! This thing grew under my hands!" I´m still so amazed at the birth of babies - from previous entry. Its so wonderful to partner God in the process of Creation. Someone said, God could have chosen to let humans reproduce like plants - Person A sneezes and his saliva can fertilize another person´s saliva through the air. You get what I mean. The whole process of human reproduction is so intricately complex. Each child is such a workmanship of God.
Yup, just my two cents worth on keeping plants. Will keep you posted on how my plants continue to thrive (or die) under me. Hahaha.
